Cooking the perfect roast chicken doesn't have to be complicated. Here's a simple and foolproof method to achieve a delicious roast chicken every time:

 

Roast Chicken

  

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken (about 4-5 pounds)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil or melted butter (optional)
  • Fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, or parsley), optional
  • Garlic cloves, optional
  • Lemon, optional

 

 

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Remove the chicken from its packaging and pat it dry with paper towels. This helps to remove excess moisture and ensures crispy skin.
  3. Season the chicken generously with salt and pepper, both inside and out. You can also add other seasonings or herbs of your choice, such as rosemary, thyme, or paprika, to enhance the flavor.
  4. If desired, tuck some fresh herbs, garlic cloves, and lemon halves inside the cavity of the chicken. This adds extra flavor and aroma to the meat as it roasts.
  5. Truss the chicken, if preferred, by tying the legs together with kitchen twine. This helps the chicken cook more evenly and maintain its shape.
  6. Place the chicken breast-side up in a roasting pan or baking dish. If you have a roasting rack, use it to elevate the chicken and allow air to circulate around it, resulting in crispier skin all around.
  7. Drizzle the chicken with a little olive oil or melted butter, if desired. This helps to promote browning and adds richness to the flavor, but it's optional if you prefer a lighter dish.
  8. Roast the chicken in the preheated oven for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) when measured with a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh without touching the bone.
  9. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for about 10-15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in juicier and more tender chicken.
  10. Carve the chicken and serve hot with your favorite side dishes, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.
